If you’re going to stay in Sydney’s most iconic beach suburb, do it like a local, says Habitus Deputy Editor Nicky Lobo.

There are plenty of hotels in Bondi Beach, catering for over 80 million visitors each year. But there’s something much nicer about staying in a real house, on a real street, and doing like the locals do with a backyard barbecue.

Bondi 113 is a boutique holiday and rental retreat that allows you to slip right into the Bondi scene. It’s just a short walk from the north end of the world-famous strip of sand and within 300m of the vibrant food and fashion outlets that give Bondi its creative pulse.

Best of all, it’s set up like a designer home away from home, created by outdoor furniture and landscape design company Robert Plumb. With their local expertise, Robert Plumb Directors William Dangar (a renowned landscape designer and 15-year Bondi local) and Bill Clifton (building craftsman) have set up a beachside oasis that can comfortably sleep 6 in 3 bedrooms.

The interiors are impeccably finished with little touches that make this experience like a house swap with an artist or designer friend. Pieces by local artists adorn the walls, a graphic front door grille designed by Michael Snape also offers security and creative books are scattered throughout the house.

But the best of beachside living takes place outdoors. The private courtyard lends itself to casual entertaining, complete with barbecue. The garage converts to an undercover area and the custom outdoor shower is the perfect way to deal with lingering sand after a swim in the surf.

Whether you like fine dining at Bondi Icebergs, chilling out to some cool tunes at Bondi FM or taking part in Will’s favourite Bondi activity, Sculptures by the Sea, Bondi 113 is the perfect base.
