As an annual showcase, the Habitus Kitchen and Bathroom special is a chance to collate and reflect on how these spaces continue to evolve to suit everyday life. While architecture and design don’t move as fast as other industries – like the pace of technology, for instance – there are still constant adjustments to the way we inhabit space as culture and society continue to shift.
For this issue, we’ve sourced homes where the kitchens and bathrooms are exceptional. To set the tone, Leanne Amodeo reports on the state of play when it comes to kitchens and bathrooms, highlighting the stand-out design elements to keep an eye on.
More than just the design of these integral rooms, we also visit the home of a chef, Ian Curley, to see the way family and food come together each day. When it comes to projects, while incredible examples of architecture, they too each offer a glimpse into unique kitchens and bathrooms.

From the large, copper-lined farm kitchen in regional NSW, to a bathroom in Clovelly detailed with impeccable refinement by Madeleine Blanchfield Architects, to a kitchen that spills out to a courtyard space.
I hope you find inspiration for your own kitchen or bathroom on the pages of Habitus, or at the very least consider the many different ways these spaces can influence the way you live.
