Using plenty of light and negative space, Alicia Sciberras has just completed an installation for the Australian furniture brand NOMI.

NOMI is a small design start up from Surry Hills in NSW, the brain child of architect Tomek Archer and technology expert Henry Gresson.

Three years ago the pair set out to create a small range of furniture that could be easily customised online.

This month design buffs have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the product, when NOMI presents Interactions installation in four parts.

Using the gallery as a blank canvas, NOMI has broken the space into four settings where visitors can socialise and interact in a range of ways.

There is a minimal interpretation of a Lobby, Milk bar, Banquet and Theatre to get involved with from the moment you enter.

Styled by the hands of the ultra-talented Alicia Sciberras, Interactions is set to create further interest in the NOMI range which has already used by Woods Bagot, Gensler and Hassell for design projects.

Tomek Archer who developed the first NOMI range says he is interested in the way furniture creates social interaction and sees his designs as props within a larger architectural system.

“The collection itself has been conceived as a range of basics, informed by a series of studies into fundamental furniture types. The adaptable series of chairs, tables and storage each have timeless and enduring qualities that are equally suited to blending in or standing out, depending on the selected customisation options,” says Tomek.

“The desire to use a room in a particular way may drive a group to assemble the furniture they need, or alternatively, a furniture setting as simple as a table and chairs may encourage a particular type of social configuration.

“It is this interaction between object and activity, planned and unplanned exchange that this installation seeks to explore,” he continues.

New products being launched in the exhibition include the Petal Stool and Skirt Table.
