This year's Biennale kicked off with a series of parties across the city, bringing together artists, curators, sponsors and public figures.

On Wednesday 27 June the MCA opening saw more than 600 guests wander throughout the galleries throughout levels one and three to view the Biennale of Sydney exhibition, before congregating at the MCA main hall for drinks and speeches. A select group of artists and VIPs continued on to the Sydney Opera House bar for drinks after the event from 8.30pm onwards.

On Friday 29 June the Carriageworks opening was hosted in the main foyer of the Redfern-based arts institution, with more than 700 guests gathering around the two installation works by Belgian artist Ann Veronica Janssens. Co-Artistic Director Catherine de Zegher, Carriageworks Director Lisa Havilah and Biennale CEO Marah Braye addressed the crowd to officially open the venue for the 18h Biennale of Sydney.  John and Peter provided the catering and delivered a 15-metre long table overflowing with cheeses, grapes and breads.
