Nendo has come up with a unique design to properly showcase the Japanese Shiawase Banana.

 

The Shiawase Banana is a high-quality banana grown on a plantation in a national park at an altitude of over 1000 metres, located in the north-central region of the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. The name Shiawase Banana from Unifrutti Japan draws on the word shiawase, which translated to ‘happiness’ in Japanese.

Nendo’s minimalist design for the packaging eschews extravagance, preferring to opt for neat and high quality perfectly befitting an environmentally friendly banana. This simple sticker on the surface of the banana peel is seamlessly integrated into the natural form on the banana.

The sticker is double layered, with the first layer faithfully reproducing the textural feel and colours of the banana peel, even down to lifelike bruises and discolouration. When peeled, the second sticker has a story to read which channels the sense of shiawase.

Continuing the environmentally sound message, Nendo’s design for the paper bag recalls the classic banana leaf shape. The carrier bag is designed so that when the string handle is removed the bananas can be easily withdrawn from the bag. It is only after spreading the bag open that the design reveals itself.
