The 2023 INDE.Summit was an action-packed day of knowledge sharing and learning, led by some of the brightest minds across the Indo Pacific. As the region’s leading digital architecture and design conference, the summit shone a light on how the future of our industry is manifesting across different geographic, economic, social and cultural contexts.
Attendees from across the globe tuned in to hear unique perspectives and design practices that lay out a pathway forward for many of the toughest challenges facing architecture and design, including sustainability, placemaking, co-design and affordable housing. Throughout the sessions, questions were asked and opinions were discussed, with audience members sending emojis flying across the screens as they showed their love and appreciation for the people and practices who shared their thought leadership with the INDE.Summit community.

Inspired by the 2023 Summit theme of “The Future is Here”, the day’s program kicked off with an educational keynote by Dr. Eduard Hovy, who demystified AI and gave a pathway for our industry to engage with and optimise programs including ChatGPT.
Dr. Hovy’s insights set a platform for the rest of the Summit, applying a futuristic and non-traditional lens to areas more familiar with architects and designers.
Marina Carroll led a panel on education design that looked at the rise of remote learning and the ways design and placemaking can help facilitate a more varied and personal style of learning. Speakers on this panel included Graeme Spencer, Tara Veldman, Rajat Khanna and Sarika Shetty.
Following on from this, our traditional workplace discussion took on a new life, with Sue Fenton, Kellie Payne, Colin Seah, Nick Todd and Tom Herron looking at the difficult challenges around workplace occupancy and employee in-person attendance. From examining ways the industry can adjust to uncovering the allure of valuable facilities, this session was engaging as always!
Sustainability and feminist approaches to design drove the conversation in the session “Housing – Community And Connecting In Places We Live”, with our speakers bringing diverse experiences and approaches to their practice into a conversation around finding more equity and collaboration in residential design. INDE.Award alumni Jeremy Smith and Emma McInnes spoke to specific examples within a New Zealand/Aeteroa context, while Sonali Rastogi explored how the realities of housing differ in the density of India and Nigel Morris brought an Australian angle to new housing models.
The final formal session of the day saw Whare Timu, Ka Wai Yeung, Erin McDonald, Patrick Keane and Sidhartha Talwar come together to unpack the themes of activism, architecture and culture, where discussions around Country, craftsmanship and community featured.
As always, some of the most applicable insights came courtesy of our Partner Panels, where the region’s leading product manufacturers shared the latest innovations and user insights regarding products made to answer the questions raised in the formal discussions.
The INDE.Summit would like to thank all the speakers for their support and participation in the 2023 INDE.Summit, along with our Platinum Partner Zenith and event partners, Bosch, Gaggenau, MillerKnoll, Capral Aluminium, Colorbond, Autex Acoustics, Technogym, Woven Image, Image Makers Association, Milliken, Kaolin Tiles and K5.
