Habitus Loves… May Design Series

Habitus Loves… May Design Series

London’s May Design Series is a celebration of design and the business behind it. This year’s event, which took place from 18-20 May, saw over 400 trade suppliers take part, and a conversation series featuring industry experts sharing their views on everything design, from the validity of trends to what you don’t get taught in design school. We bring you our pick of the new products on show this week.

Muutos
Muutos

Created by: Preciosa Lighting

Why we love it: Designed by Czech lighting brand Preciosa as part of The Seven Senses of Light collection, Muutos is an evocative crystal pendant light that marries traditional and contemporary craft. In its production, molten bohemian crystal glass is poured into hundred-year-old moulds, and then gently shaped by hand to obtain the final shape.

RE-VIVE recliner

Created by: Natuzzi

Why we love it: RE-VIVE might just be the first ergonomic performance recliner designed to look good in a domestic environment. Designed over two years in collaboration with award-winning New Zealand design company, Formway Design, it takes its inspiration from movements and forms found in nature – from the tail of a lobster to the human spine.

Why we love it: Australia’s A+D community has long been in the know about Art Hide Bespoke, an exclusive service in which Art Hide works with customers to create luxurious one-of-a-kind wall, floor and furniture coverings. May Design Series marks the Australian company’s expansion into the UK market – we can’t wait to see what comes from it.

Woodlands

Created by: Caesarstone

Why we love it: The latest colour in Caesarstone’s Supernatural Collection, Woodlands, evokes the warm, earthy tones of its namesake, with a delicate cream vein throughout that imbues it with depth. The colour, which debuted at May Design Series, has been designed to replicate the beauty of marble but with the advantages of Caesarstone solid surface.

MONDIAL

Created by: Nanna Ditzel for GETAMA

Why we love it: : Denmark’s oldest manufacturer of Hans Wegner furniture, GETAMA, used May Design Series as a platform to re-launch classic designs by Nanna Ditzel. We particularly like Ditzel’s Mondial couch, with its simple curves and contemporary form.

Campana
Campana

Created by: Paolo Mapelli for LUCENTE

Why we love it: Designer, Paolo Mapelli, draws on the archetypal form of a bell-shaped pendant light and makes it contemporary. The solid bold colours and high gloss finish of the lacquered polyurethane body help define the form, while a round opal PMMA diffuser simulates the concave part of the bell.

Toshi Cabinets

Created by: Luca Nichetto for Casamania

Why we love it: : Inspired by the decorative mosaic edifices found in Tokyo, Venetian designer Luca Nichetto created the Toshi family of cabinets for Italian brand Casamania. We love the muted palette of on-trend colours and the variety of shapes and sizes that can be arranged into a domestic cityscape

SOLID
SOLID

Created by: Terence Woodgate, available from Holloways of Ludlow

Why we love it: One of the UK’s most respected designers, Terence Woodgate, launched his new eponymous lighting company with a debut collection titled Solid. We love the pared down aesthetic and material honesty of the pieces, which range from Oak and Walnut to Carrara marble.
