Paper Attic at Object Gallery

Benja Harney will exhibit his intricate paper works during Sydney Design 2011 at Sydney’s Object Gallery.

You may remember our story last year on talented paper artist, Benja Harney. Well, he’s at it again in 2011 with a new exhibition at Object Gallery in Surry Hills called ‘The Paper Attic’.

The exhibition, curated by Tara D’cruz-Noble, features a scene one might find in at attic, with a collection of objects from old records and toys to “crazy inventions gone wrong” and even architectural elements made from paper – such as an attic window.

Self-taught, Benja has gone from learning techniques from admired paper artists, to making a buck from creating posters, window displays and editorial for magazines.

The Paper Attic has been specifically curated and created for the Object Gallery’s Project Space (upstairs from the main gallery) and represents the second collaboration between Benja and Tara following their successful project for Topshop in the UK.

The exhibition runs from 30 July – 25 September 2011 and will be open late on Thursdays during the Sydney Design festival (4 and 11 August 2011) – where you’ll get a chance to meet with Benja himself.

It’s a great way to explore the medium and inspire the Internet Generation to rediscover the tactile nature of paper.
