From conception to the creation, Gaggenau is constantly evolving with a rich heritage spanning 336 years and it continues to be the world’s leading brand of appliances that marries timeless beauty and functional aestheticism.
Gaggenau is proud to be a part of the Habitus House of the Year initiative – a celebration of innovative originality and personality through architecture and design. Habitus honours residential projects that honour the diverse landscapes and lifestyles across the Indo Pacific region and recognises the methods in which architecture and design act as a representation of the residents’ individuality and its positive impact on their lived experiences throughout the home. Through meticulous craftsmanship in products that engage and inspire, Gaggenau is committed to uncompromising quality and sophisticated appliances that enrich the individual’s appreciation of life.
In celebration of living spaces that revitalises its context and surroundings through considerate architecture and design, Gaggenau is delighted to be a partner of this year’s Habitus House of the Year.
Habitus Living: In what ways does the Gaggenau philosophy align with the Habitus House of the Year initiative?
Robert Warner: Gaggenau constantly seeks to celebrate great design and we constantly seek to inspire others. There is no sacrifice of aesthetics or functionality. Habitus House of the Year is all about honouring outstanding residential design and it provides an opportunity to showcase unique architecture and design throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
The Gaggenau values of authenticity, extraordinary and uncompromising align closely with those of Habitus House of the Year, which will honour homes for their craftsmanship and design foresight, by both renowned architectural firms, as well as new emerging architects and designers.
We look forward to seeing what the next generation of design will bring.
Featured in two of the residences in this year’s Habitus House of the Year is the Gaggenau Vario 400 Series. How do the products within the Gaggenau brand lend itself to the evolving narrative of architecture and design within the Indo Pacific region?
The Indo Pacific region design narrative has continued to blur the lines between East and West in an effort to fuse elements from different cultures to create a truly original masterpiece. Traditional raw materials, timber finishes and stainless steel accents have been met with the clean lines of modern engineering bringing together the best of both worlds.
The Gaggenau 400 series design is traditional avant-garde. It is the combination of design modularity with smooth, seamless integration that allow these sculpted appliances to redefine the landscape of the functional kitchen.
Where do you see residential design moving towards in the next decade? And how do you see Gaggenau appliances supporting this shift into the next generation of architecture and design?
Residential design is embracing ‘living spaces’ and responding to the shift in consumer needs in how they embrace and use areas within the home. There is an increased desire for more personalised spaces that are designed to suit the individual needs of each household.
This desire has been a focus for Gaggenau for many years. From the modularity of our Vario cooktop range, an interconnecting system that allows customers to combine specialty, to the fleet design of our built-in cooking products, there is the opportunity to design your own solution to fit your individual needs. The Gaggenau series cohesively fuse together state-of-the-art performance with intelligent design, bringing together form and function.
In your opinion, what are the key qualities and design characteristics of an award-winning home within the Indo Pacific region?
The major characteristic for any award winning home is that the design intent meets the unique requirements of the client whilst maintaining an authenticity toward its surroundings. More specifically, I hope to see the real fusion of both east and west, showing a reflection of the culture, the natural habitat and the use of raw materials local to the region in combination with contemporary architectural trends and sustainable engineering practices.
The judging panel will be able to see how the homes have catered to both aesthetics and functionality, the use of light and shade and how they have optimised the use of available space.
How can the selected projects in the Indo Pacific context inspire emerging designers and architects grow within the industry?
By celebrating and highlighting design that pushes the envelope, it might give emerging designers the impetus to be more courageous in their work. Given the diversity within Indo Pacific, this platform can also open their eyes to new concepts, new finishes and new ways of thinking.
The projects selected as part of Habitus House of the Year are ‘the best of the best’ chosen by a diverse jury of residential design experts within the Indo-Pacific region.
Inspiration is what fuels creativity and allows us to both innovate and to evolve.
