’15 Colour Series’ by Joanna Lamb

Sullivan + Strumpf presents Joanna Lamb’s exhibition ’15 Colour Series’, a collection of works investigating the domestic interior and exterior.

In this body of work Lamb has produced a series of paintings with different compositions using the same fifteen colours, chosen through an intuitive process which considered colour contrast and tonal value to most effectively suggest multiple spatial scenarios.

Influenced by advertising and graphic design imagery and print and electronic media processes, the compositions, especially the spaces within the interiors and the forms of the exteriors, have been reduced and abstracted to their most readable elemental forms. The subject matter of the domestic interior/exterior contains elements drawn from the artists own experiences of these spaces and dwellings as well as those represented in magazines and on the internet.

Joanna Lamb was born Perth, 1972, and completed a Bachelor of Arts (Design) at Curtin University, Perth, 1997 and a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) at Edith Cowan University, Perth in 1994.

Lamb has participated in institutional exhibitions such as Built, Art Gallery of Western Australia (2009), The Shilo Project, The Ian Potter Museum of Art, Melbourne (2009) and Time and Place – Selected Works from the TWMA Collection, TarraWarra Museum of Art, Healesville (2008). Lamb was shortlisted for the Bankwest Contemporary Art Prize in 2011 -12 and was Highly Commended for the ABN AMRO Emerging Artist Award in 2007.

’15 Colour Series’ will be on display at Sullivan + Strumpf gallery from 18 June – 13 July 2013.
