Good things happen when Italian boys get together. And SUPER shades by Retrosuperfuture is another great example. This collaboration driven by instinct was the pet project of two magazine publishers looking for something more from the average pair of shades.
Since 2007 when the Beckerman brothers first started designing their collection Retrosuperfuture’s have graced the faces of the some of the world’s hottest celebrities, among them screen sirens Sienna Miller and Jessica Alba.
Founder Daniel Beckerman, who also publishes the Italian indie music mag PIG, says Retrosuperfuture started when he and his bro Simon noticed a gap in the market.
“All the companies that are in the market today are led by people who are interested in standard and established markets such as D&G, Armani, Gucci etc. But what about all the other street couture brands?” says Beckerman.
“Together with this we agreed that nobody was playing with eyewear or putting the fun in eyewear, not like the great expression you can see in the clothing business. All shades were black, tortoise shell, grey and maybe some white or red, that was it… We were asking ourselves, ‘Where are the shades for me and my friends?’”
