Eagle-eyed readers may have spotted Yenn Design’s four-legged beanbag in our recent Habitus Loves… Beanbags story!
Big Elephant, which has won several awards including Japan Good Design 2010, caught our eye for both its whimsical name and clever form. Ever curious, we talk to the duo, whose previous work for companies such as Yothaka have already received significant accolades.
How did you guys meet?
In early 2006 we met at a workshop on furniture design development organised by the Department of Export Promotion Thailand. We would always meet and talk in the factory which was supporting us with our prototype.
Our way of think and processing fitted well together. In 2006 we were chosen to exhibit in the Tokyo Interior Lifestyle fair so we decided to set up Yenn Design.

What’s your focus as designers?
Since we’re not graduates in interior or furniture design, we are open to any material and thinking process. We experiment and work with the technician. We’ve made our products from materials like ratan, steel and aluminium but we’re not specific when it comes to the material.

We choose materials that fit the design we make. Sometimes we choose the material that interests us, then we design. So each project is not the same process. It’s always an experiment.
What inspires you?
Things that people have forgotten in everyday life.
Can you tell us more about Big Elephant (or Chang)?
Chang is a 4-legged beanbag. With 4 legs, users can create functions to suit their lifestyle. It saves on delivery cost as it can be delivered flat and be filled with the beans at the end destination.
With 4 legs, users can choose different styles of sitting
What are your plans for this year?
Previously, we designed products to sell to companies. But this year, we want to focus on our own brand and make it well known locally and internationally.
We will design more new products and have an exhibition in Bangkok. We also plan to promote our brand worldwide, as well as our shop in Bangkok.
